Greater Butterfly Orchids in North Cornwall June 2022.

It was so good to find some beautiful hay meadows on a private site in North Cornwall that had an amazing display of hundreds, possibly thousands of what I think are Greater Butterfly Orchids.

I've ploughed through my books and Google to check whether they are the Greater or Lesser species and at the moment I'm erring on the Greater.

Not only were they in full flower but there were lots of Southern Marsh Orchids, Yellow Rattle & Knapweed.

The place was alive with insects, especially butterflies so it does show that if you have a good habitat then the wildlife will follow.

Here are a few more images of the orchids....

Moorland butterflies in Cornwall May / June 2022.

Marsh Fritillary

The weather has been kind recently and I've managed to get out to 2 different sites on Bodmin Moor to photograph both Marsh and Small pearl-bordered Fritillaries.

It was great to find them on some classic wetland plants, especially on Bog-bean in full flower.

The Small pearl-bordered was on bluebells on a drier section of the moor.

Here are a selection of images from  my camera....
