Trees on Dartmoor, 16th Feb 2016.

Love this big beech tree standing up to the wild weather on Dartmoor today.

Great winter light between the clouds brought out the silver lichen covered bark and accentuated the shapes of both trunk and branches. Simple images these but they still evoke a sense of wildness!

The beech tree next to the one above had gone over a bit with the prevailing south-westerly winds but its two main branches had dug into the field and are supporting the whole tree against the elements.

Finally I couldn't resist this trio of thorn bushes, not sure if they're blackthorn or hawthorn.

The beech is truly spectacular. What a behemoth! If only it could talk.......
